The mission of Mission Statements

Finding a mission statement for a business

If marketing for your business is like a book, your mission statement is the prologue.

Why should someone pay attention to your brand, buy your products or services, visit your website, or follow you on social media? These are questions you should answer in a heartbeat, and your mission statement will help draw an audience into following your brand.

But say you’re new to the industry or in the midst of rebranding your business. How do you establish a mission statement that encapsulates your brand as a whole without becoming too dense or missing the important points?

Get your reading glasses on, because we’re diving into the book of Mission Statements!

Chapter One: What is a Mission Statement?

As the saying goes, the beginning is always a good place to start!

There are many ways to define what a mission statement is, but according to HubSpot in their ‘27 Truly Inspiring Company Vision and Mission Statement Examples,’ a mission statement is, “an action-oriented statement, declaring the purpose an organization serves to its audience. It often includes a general description of the organization, its function, and its objectives.”

Because a mission statement is a brief description of a business and its role in society, it makes sense that it would seem daunting! How do you explain everything about your business without becoming complicated? This is a challenge many businesses face when first starting off, but there is a way to clearly define a mission statement, and it is through three simple elements.

Chapter Two: The Three Elements of a Mission Statement.

Now that we understand what a mission statement is, the next challenge is, how do we create one that hits the perfect middle ground? A mission statement that with too much information is dense and might become too complicated for a prospective client. But the pendulum always swings to the other side, and with too little information, a prospective client won’t understand your business at all.

So, in one or a couple of short sentences, how do you convey the value of your company and why it exists?

The best way is to follow the three well-known elements that have been used to create a mission statement: purpose, values, and strategy.

Your Purpose: Why does your business exist? Answering this question helps get to the center of what you want to give to an audience.

Your Values: How does your business meet your audience’s needs? Interchangeable with “vision,” this is your promise to your audience by painting a picture of what success looks like.

Your Strategy: In what ways will your business get there? Once your mission statement has its purpose and value, your prospective client will want to know how you’ll reach that end goal. Clearly stating it proves that success is achievable.

The takeaway with these three elements? A mission statement that has a clear purpose, values that express how success looks like, and a strategy that shows how you’ll get there is a mission statement that any prospective client will understand. Chapter Three: How did AMP find a Mission Statement

What is AMP’s mission statement? To answer this question, we actually encourage readers to visit our officially launched website, but we’ll showcase it below as well! The moment you reach our homepage, you may notice a sentence right under our logo:

“We are committed to delivering affordable and effortless marketing with an expert team dedicated to grow your business.”

Let’s use certain keywords and the three elements to dissect the AMP mission statement: purpose, value, strategy.

Purpose: “marketing,” “expert team,” “dedicated.” As AMP started up, we wanted to make sure that prospective clients were going to work with a team that not only has the expertise in marketing but are completely passionate and dedicated to leading businesses to success.

Values: “committed,” “affordable and effortless.” We here at AMP know that marketing can not only be a challenge to businesses but can also become very costly. With this understanding, we decided that focusing marketing that could be easy understood and low-cost, while still receiving high quality services and expertise is what our audience wants.

Strategy: Like any magician with a magic trick, AMP can’t fully disclose the AMP method for success! However, with our listed purpose and values, finding our last step in strategy was a smooth journey.
